Every New Year, I used to sit down with a fresh notebook and write a list of resolutions.
Eat better.
Be more patient.
Wake up earlier.
Start meditating daily.
Stop yelling.
Be a better version of myself.
It always started out hopeful. Empowering, even.
But by the end of January? I was already overwhelmed and quietly disappointed.
The goals were well-intentioned, but here’s what I didn’t understand back then — you can’t goal-set your way out of a dysregulated nervous system.
You can’t plan your way into peace if your body still lives in survival.
You can’t organise your way into joy if your breath is shallow and your shoulders live around your ears.
I don’t make resolutions anymore.
Now, I ask one question: What would feel regulating for me this year?
Would it feel nourishing to slow down instead of speed up?
Would it feel empowering to speak honestly, even if it’s messy?
Would it feel supportive to let someone hold space for me — to remind me I don’t have to carry it all alone?
This is the deeper work I guide other women through.
Because we don’t need more pressure to become someone new. We need permission to come home to who we are underneath the noise.
When your nervous system feels safe, your mind softens. Your breath deepens. Your emotions don’t explode or stay buried — they move.
From this place, you don’t need twenty resolutions. You move from truth, not from performance.
You show up with integrity. You parent with more presence. You respond instead of react. You feel your aliveness return.
Breathwork has given me this again and again.
It’s why I do this work.
It’s why I’m inviting you to begin your year differently.
So if you’ve already broken your resolutions — or avoided setting them at all — that might be a very good thing.
It might be your nervous system whispering: Can we try a gentler way this time?
You don’t need to start the year with pressure.
Start with breath. Start with presence. Start with truth.
Book a coaching or breathwork session with me — Beth Lewis, The Holistic Alchemist — and let’s create a year that begins with regulation, not perfection. You are worthy of support, softness, and a fresh start that actually honours your nervous system.

Life in today’s world can feel like a constant push—emails, deadlines, family responsibilities, social pressures, and the never-ending mental load. For many women across Sydney’s North Shore and Northern Beaches, the pressure to “keep it all together” is an everyday reality.
If you find yourself operating in overdrive, unable to relax, and feeling constantly “on edge,” you’re not alone. You may be experiencing nervous system dysregulation—and your breath could be the key to restoring balance.
Let’s gently explore how breathwork supports the nervous system and why it’s one of the most powerful tools for navigating high-stress lifestyles.
Understanding the Nervous System
Our nervous system is the body’s internal command centre. It determines how we respond to stress, how we relax, how we recover, and how safe we feel.
There are two main branches:
- The Sympathetic Nervous System (fight, flight, or freeze)
- The Parasympathetic Nervous System (rest, digest, and restore)
In a balanced state, we flow naturally between the two. But in high-stress lifestyles, we tend to get stuck in the sympathetic mode—always switched on, alert, and bracing for what’s next.
This constant state of hypervigilance can lead to:
- Anxiety or panic
- Sleep problems
- Chronic tension and fatigue
- Hormonal imbalances
- Emotional reactivity
- Chronic health issues and/or chronic pain
Over time, the body forgets how to come down from stress. That’s where breathwork comes in.
Breathwork: A Direct Line to Calm
Breathwork is one of the few tools that gives us conscious control over the nervous system.
When you breathe slowly and intentionally, you send a powerful signal to your body: You are safe.
This activates the parasympathetic nervous system, allowing the body to soften, the mind to quiet, and healing to begin.
In my sessions, I’ve seen women go from anxious and scattered to grounded and present—often in a single session. The shift is real. The relief is tangible.
Breathwork Helps You:
- Shift from survival mode to safety
By regulating your breath, you regulate your emotional state. You can move from reactivity to resilience.
- Release trapped tension and emotion
Unprocessed stress lives in the body. Conscious breathing allows you to gently release it without needing to talk it through.
- Rebuild emotional safety and trust in your body
When your nervous system is supported, you start to feel safe in your skin again—able to trust your gut, set boundaries, and respond with clarity.
- Restore energy and presence
Breathwork helps break the burnout cycle. It teaches your body how to rest deeply, even in short moments.
For the Women Doing It All
Whether you’re a busy mum, a professional woman managing a high workload, or someone quietly carrying emotional strain, your nervous system deserves support.
Breathwork is simple, accessible, and incredibly effective. It meets you right where you are—with no need to explain, justify, or perform.
In our work together, you’ll be guided in a safe, supportive environment to gently unwind, reconnect with your breath, and regulate your nervous system with tools you can carry into everyday life. I will set you up with breath flows and exercises that are right for YOU and where you’re currently at in your life. (ie: if you have been through trauma, your breathwork and healing journey will look a lot different to someone who is simply navigating every day stresses and wants to feel more centred. Your safety is my priority, and your healing journey will be set at a pace that feels right for you.)

In the world of wellness and self-care, there’s no shortage of tools designed to help us find calm, clarity, and emotional balance. Two of the most powerful—and often compared—are breathwork and meditation.
Both are ancient practices. Both can transform your state of mind. And both are becoming increasingly popular across Sydney, especially among women seeking grounded, soulful ways to cope with modern life.
But if you’ve ever found yourself wondering, “Which one is right for me right now?”—you’re not alone. Let’s take a gentle walk through both, so you can feel into what your body, mind and spirit truly need.
What Is Meditation?
Meditation is a stillness practice. It invites you to slow down, quiet the mind, and be present. Often practised by sitting in silence or focusing on a mantra, breath, or visualisation, meditation helps calm the nervous system, improve focus, and increase self-awareness.
Meditation works best when practised regularly, even if just for a few minutes a day. It’s like giving your mind a rest from the constant to-do lists, expectations, and mental chatter.
Many locals in Sydney’s North find meditation helpful for:
- Managing daily stress
- Improving sleep
- Cultivating patience
- Becoming more self-aware
- Feeling more grounded in busy seasons of life
But while meditation is a beautiful tool for quieting the mind, it isn’t always easy—especially if you’re carrying emotional weight or struggle to sit still.
What Is Breathwork?
Breathwork is an active practice that uses conscious breathing to move energy through the body. It can be calming, activating, or deeply emotional—depending on the style used.
While meditation helps calm the mind, breathwork goes deeper by directly influencing the body’s physiology. By regulating your breath, you not only quiet mental chatter but also improve oxygen delivery to your cells through better carbon dioxide balance — something meditation alone doesn’t address. Breathwork activates the parasympathetic nervous system, reduces stress hormones, and optimizes cellular function, making it a more immediate and physically transformative practice than meditation. It doesn’t just change how you think — it changes how your body functions.
Here’s the science part, made simple: your body actually needs a certain level of carbon dioxide (CO₂) to unlock oxygen from your blood and deliver it to your cells. When you breathe too much — even just from stress or anxiety — you lose too much CO₂, and your cells end up getting less oxygen, not more. Breathwork helps you slow your breathing, restore that balance, and make oxygen usable again. So instead of just “taking deep breaths,” you’re training your body to function more efficiently — physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Breathwork is ideal when you want to:
- Release stuck or stored emotions
- Regulate your nervous system
- Shift energy quickly
- Access clarity or spiritual connection
- Feel more alive and present in your body
I often describe breathwork as a doorway. It invites you to walk through old stories, limiting beliefs, or heavy emotions, and come out the other side feeling lighter, clearer, and more connected to yourself.

So, Which One Do You Need Right Now?
That depends on where you’re at.
If you’re feeling anxious, emotionally overwhelmed, exhausted or disconnected from your body—breathwork may be the more supportive path. It gives you something to do with those emotions. It helps move what words can’t always express.
If you’re simply feeling overstimulated and mentally scattered, and you’re craving quiet or focus—meditation may be just what you need. It offers stillness, a return to simplicity, and a chance to just be.
Here’s the truth: both are powerful. Both are valid. And both have a place in your wellness toolkit.
Sometimes we need to move. Sometimes we need to sit still. And learning to listen to what your body is asking for in each moment is the real magic.

Take a deep breath with me. Inhale… and exhale.
Feel that? That’s the beginning of something powerful.
If you’ve been hearing the word breathwork floating around yoga studios, wellness circles, or coffee dates with friends in Sydney’s North, you’re not alone. Breathwork is growing in popularity—and for good reason. This beautiful practice is helping people just like you reconnect with their body, quiet their mind, and release emotions stored deep within.
But what exactly is breathwork? And why are more women, mums, and mindful professionals across Sydney turning to it for healing and clarity?
Let’s gently explore.
So, What Is Breathwork?
A lot of people tend to breathe too much. This excessive breathing can raise your heart rate, tighten your muscles, and trigger even more breathing. It creates a loop—more breathing leads to more stress and anxiety, which leads to even more breathing. Most of us were never taught how to interrupt this pattern in order to restore our health, energy, and sense of balance. Learning to breathe differently is about reversing this process. In simple terms: breathe less, and you’ll feel less stressed.
Most people breathe between 14-20 breaths per minute.
A healthy person with healthy respiration actually breathes between 8-12 breaths per minute. When you breathe in this rhythm, all our bodily systems fall into place.
At its core, breathwork is the intentional practice of changing the way you breathe to influence your physical, emotional, and energetic state.
That might sound simple, but the impact is anything but. Our breath is directly linked to our nervous system. It reflects how we feel—and also influences how we feel. When we breathe consciously and fully, we tell our body it’s safe. We allow it to relax, to release, and to reset.
There are many styles of breathwork, from slow and restorative to fast and transformational. Whether you’re seeking emotional healing, spiritual connection, or simply a quiet space to be, breathwork meets you where you are.
The Gentle Power of the Breath
Most of us go through our days breathing shallowly and unconsciously—especially when life gets busy. And let’s be honest, living in Sydney, we’re no strangers to the juggle. Between school drop-offs, long commutes, demanding careers, and full calendars, it’s easy to slip into survival mode.
But here’s the magic:
When you return to your breath, you return to yourself.
Breathwork can help with:
- Stress and anxiety
- Sleep issues
- Back and shoulder pain
- Emotional overwhelm
- Low energy
- Improved blood flow
- Creative blocks
- Healing past emotional wounds
And the best part? It doesn’t require anything but you and your breath.
What Happens in a Breathwork Session?
With me, Beth Lewis, sessions are always held in a calm, welcoming space— in-person in Sydney’s North.
We begin with checking in with how you’re feeling emotionally, physically, and energetically, then slowly start to ground you into presence. I’ll guide you through carefully curated breath flows tailored to your personal needs. Sometimes this is deeply calming; other times it may help move stuck energy or release stored emotions.
There’s often music, (including sound healing and Reiki), soft guidance, and space for tears, laughter, or stillness. Every session is unique—just like you.
Who Is Breathwork For?
Breathwork is for anyone who:
- Feels stuck, tired, or disconnected
- Carries emotional stress, anxiety, or past trauma
- Craves a deeper connection with themselves
- Wants to feel more peaceful, aligned, and present
- Struggles with health issues and/or chronic pain
Whether you’re a mum who rarely gets time to herself, a professional burning the candle at both ends, or simply curious about a more intuitive way to support your well-being—breathwork can be your sanctuary.
A Loving Invitation
You don’t need to be a “spiritual person.” You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to show up—with your breath and a willingness to soften.
As someone who’s walked through stress, overwhelm, and self-disconnection, I’ve witnessed first-hand the transformation that happens when we remember how to breathe again—with intention.
If you’re ready to experience the calm, clarity, connection, and transformation to your overall wellbeing breathwork can bring, I invite you to book a session with me today. Whether it’s a one-on-one breathwork session or a couples breathwork session to help you both reconnect and deepen your bond, you’ll be held in a safe, nurturing space designed just for you.

For so many mums, the transition into motherhood is both beautiful and disorienting. The joy of raising a child is undeniable, but it often comes with an invisible cost: the loss of self.
Somewhere between the sleepless nights, school lunches, work emails, and endless to-do lists, many mothers find themselves asking a painful question:
“Who the hell am I?”
This sense of disconnection is more common than people realise. It doesn’t mean a mother loves her family any less, it means she’s been pouring from an empty cup for far too long. Her dreams, passions, and even basic needs slowly fade into the background. And when the dust settles, she’s left feeling like a shell of the vibrant, purpose-filled woman she once was… or maybe she has never really met her and she’s dying to come out!?
Here’s the truth: You are in there!
At MYnd CENTRE, I gently guide Mums to rediscover their authentic identity and reclaim the sense of purpose they thought they had lost.
Through a holistic blend of inner child healing, nervous system regulation, and mindset shifts (using Transformational Coaching and NLP techniques), I support women so they can strip back the noise and expectations of modern motherhood. With a deep understanding of how childhood patterns shape adult behaviours and parenting styles, the level of support I offer empowers mums to:
- Explore, (then release), limiting beliefs and generational wounds, so they can live freely on their own terms
- Connect with their voice and values, so they can speak their truth with confidence and live in full alignment
- Prioritise their emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing, so they can feel safe and vibrant within themselves on all levels
And most importantly, to remember who they are beyond the role of ‘Mum’.
If you’ve been feeling lost in motherhood, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to stay stuck.
Book a chat with me today, and let’s start the journey back to you.
